After the release of the O-levels result, we heard from our teachers several times that our school did not do so well for the O-level exam especially for English.
In my opinion, this is because there are little hands-on activities like practical or experiments. Take English and Social Studies for example, English cannot actually do practical or experiments like sciences.
With experiments, subjects like Biology, Chemistry and Physics could be understood easily and at a faster time. English, like Chinese, needs to be ‘drilled’ in to our mind and that is why most students find them boring and ‘dry’. So when it comes to tests, we often did not do so well.
Personally, I think that this problem could be solved if there is less teachings and more hands-on. Instead of lessons by the teachers, the school could ask us to do project or research on the topic after the teacher teaches finish. To improve in our English, we could also read more newspaper and storybooks.
On the whole, I think that as a school, we could improve our standard in O-levels and N-levels if we try to turn every lessons more interesting, easy to understand and more unforgettable.
